It depends! All of our tours are private, so if you have your heart set on seeing certain areas or arches, that’s what we’ll do. If you’d rather leave it up to the guide, we’re happy to show you our favorite spots.
We’ll chat with you about your fitness level, hiking experience and anything else you want us to take into consideration as we plan a loose itinerary for our time in the park. Throughout our visit, we can be flexible with where we hike and what we see – oh, the beauty of private tours!
Our National Park permit requires us to stay on designated trails. Some trails are busier than others, and our guides know these parks well. If you don’t want to visit the busiest trail in all of Moab (Delicate Arch!), we’ll stay away from that area and visit other designated trails that area little more quiet. If you don’t care much about crowds and just want to see the most classic trails and arches, we can do that too!
Sure, we’re not allowed to take you on trails that aren’t on the park map, but what we can do is share a wealth of knowledge about the area that you won’t get from hiking on your own and reading the signs at each trailhead.
Our guides are local residents who know and love these National Parks. We’ll teach you about geology, flora and fauna, natural history, cultural history and answer any questions about the area that you may have.
Nope! We are not required to secure a timed-entry ticket for our guided tours. We do still have to sit in the entrance line, but we can go into the park at any time of the day without reservations.
Did a hiking tour of Arches National Park using Desert Highlights with my wife. Very professional and a very personalized hiking experience. Our tour guide, Jake was excellent! He took the time to ask us what we wanted to see and our hiking level, then created a day of hiking just for us. Brought us to all the arches and the areas that were not crowded with tourists. Then had a great lunch which Jake cut up fresh vegetables, hummus, cheeses and wraps… served them under a shaded picnic area. If you’re looking for a personalized hiking experience, not 50 people on a tour bus, then Desert Highlights is a very good choice. I highly recommend Desert Highlights and Jake.
We had limited time and this was the best possible experience. We had a spectacular morning! Herb pointed out the unique geology and history of the rock formations as we drove and his knowledge of the park and the area was encyclopedic. We hiked the 3 mile round trip to Delicate Arch which was breathtaking, looked at the Fiery Furnace's maze of fins and hiked the 1 mile round trip to Landscape Arch. Herb took such good care of us on the hikes, especially as there was still snow on the ground and there are a few spots with drop offs and my husband has vertigo. Melissa are Doug are the ultimate professionals and I would recommend them for this and any other activity they offer.
