Absolutely! Our half day rock climbing tours are a great introduction to climbing outdoors. We’ll visit an area with many different levels of climbs, so we can start easy and work our way up as it’s appropriate for your group.
All of our tours are private, so you’ll get plenty of instruction and climbing in throughout the 4 to 6 hours with your guide.
Our half day tours visit areas that are within a 30 minute drive from downtown Moab. We typically choose the location based on the season (spring, summer, fall), whether we want to be in the sun or shade and if we’re meeting in the morning or afternoon.
If you are familiar with the climbing around Moab and have a particular crag that you’d like to visit, please let us know. We may or may not have permits for the specific area you’re looking for, but we’re happy to accommodate as we can – oh, the beauty of private tours!
Sure! If you’re tagging along as a spectator, we’ll just ask that you sign a Risk Agreement form and wear a helmet while at the base of the routes.
Anyone that is under the age of 18 must have a parent with them during their time climbing with us.

The most INCREDIBLE rock climbing experience ever! Our guide was Ed and he was the coolest guy! So knowledgeable about rock climbing amount other awesome things that it made the experience even better! It made it an unforgettable experience! It was just me and my husband which was so nice! Ed had real interest in us and truly cared and helped us with our climbing skills as well! Desert Highlights has the nicest group of people working there! We highly recommend them for an AWESOME experience in Moab! Something to go home and tell all your friends about! We can’t wait to come back to Moab and book another amazing adventure with Desert Highlights!!
I had an amazing time with Desert Highlights on a guided rock climbing and also a canyoneering trip this past spring. It was one of the best experiences of my life! Herb was my guide on both trips and he was extremally patient, knowledgeable and easy going. He answered endless questions about the technical skills used on the trip as well as questions pertaining to the local area. Herb is awesome! Another thing that I really appreciate is they are a small company that really worked with me to tailor the experience so I could get the most out of it. I honestly cannot say enough good things about this place! If I end up in Moab again I will be booking another adventure with them! If you are looking for a great way to explore the beauty and wonder of Moab, you should definitely book a trip with Desert Highlights. You will not regret it!
Our group had the best day rock climbing! So fun, thrilling, and beautiful. Great guide and easy to communicate with :)
Four of us, ages 9,14, 15 and 48, went rock climbing together this week for a half-day in the morning with Herb! We had limited experience, and all enjoyed ourselves immensely, his ability to share his craft and passion with us and his knowledge of the area we’re appreciated, the guidance was exceptional, they efficiently determined what our comfort and ability levels were, and found enjoyable routes for all of us while providing a safe yet adventurous environment for us to learn and practice rock climbing! I highly recommend, I will return, and the members of our group are already asking when we get to do it again!
We signed up our 16 year old for a half day rock climbing excursion. The whole family met up with Jake at Desert Highlights and we followed him in our car to the "Ice Cream Parlor" climbing area. Jake provided a menu of choices and she was able to do four climbs, ranging from a 5.5 to a 5.9, in about three hours. This was the first time she climbed outside of a rock climbing gym and it was an amazing experience. They went through all the requirements for climbing and Jake showed her how to tie knots and ensure for safety. Jake was friendly, knowledgeable and he provided just the right amount of guidance. We would definitely be back if we are in the Moab area!
